Equine Associate Veterinarian – Full Time

Chicago Equine Medical Center provides preventative healthcare as well as sport and internal medicine options for a variety of performance and pleasure horses in Northeast Illinois, Southeast Wisconsin and beyond. Chicago Equine Medical Center is seeking a career veterinarian interested in making a long-term impact on a varied horse population in Northeastern Illinois. Our practice offers qualified candidates the opportunity to work in a full-service outpatient facility and surgical center with modern diagnostic and treatment options. Associates also provide routine and emergency services in the field, so candidates should be flexible and independent in addition to being collaborative and supportive of colleagues including referral veterinarians on complex cases. Associates are expected to be timely and accurate with their billing and maintain detailed documentation.

Chicago Equine provides clients with 24-hour emergency and critical care availability. Because our team’s quality of life is a top priority, emergency coverage is shared among Chicago Equine veterinarians and a select group of referring equine veterinarians. Associates share horse show veterinarian duties at all HITS hunter jumper competitions in Illinois and other local horse shows as scheduled. They may also have the opportunity to spend time working at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.

Experience and education are important for this position, but candidates also need to be committed, confident, and motivated to provide the best care possible for hospitalized, outpatient, and ambulatory patients. Owning a horse or being an experienced rider is helpful, but not as necessary as enjoying time spent talking with clients about their horses or a willingness to go above and beyond to articulately and honestly answer questions for a client who is uncertain about the necessary treatment for their beloved animal.

Other info: Requirements to be considered for this position include DVM (or equivalent) from an AVMA accredited veterinary school; successful completion of the NAVLE or NBE and CCT; eligible for licensing in Illinois and Wisconsin; US Citizenship; curriculum vitae, letter of intent, transcript, and three letters of recommendation. Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) – Full Time or Part Time

The Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT) at Chicago Equine participate in every aspect of patient care at our medical facility and at ambulatory appointments. Everyday job duties include supporting the veterinary staff, monitoring hospitalized patients, lunging and jogging horses during soundness exams, preparing horses for joint injections, and assisting with diagnostic imaging. A CVT will independently perform nuclear scintigraphy exams and prepare lab samples to be sent out and run them on in house equipment. They will also act as surgical technician and run anesthesia during elective and emergency procedures with our board-certified surgeon. When not assisting with patient care, a CVT will provide support with inventory and cleanliness of the hospital and ambulatory vehicles.

About our practice

The Northwest Veterinary Group is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, and collaborative veterinarian to join our equine team. Our leadership team is young and vibrant which is why we have experienced phenomenal growth in the equine department the past two years. This position is primarily ambulatory and comes with a veterinary assistant and a fully stocked pickup with vet insert. Desired interest and skills include lameness, internal medicine, repro, dentistry, regenerative medicine, field surgery, communication and community outreach.

We encourage all our veterinarians to develop and expand their current skill set in order to enable us to expand our services even further. Acupuncture and chiropractic are examples of areas into which we are expanding. Our patients range from high level sport horses to miniatures, western performance to back yard pets and award-winning vaulting draft horses to weekend warriors.

The area is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts as we are close to the water – salt water and fresh water, the mountains and the beautiful Skagit Valley and San Juan Islands. It is green year around here in the Pacific Northwest. And if the lights of the big city and its cultural activities are what you are interested in, Seattle is only an hour away.

We have an extensive complement of diagnostic equipment available which includes digital x-ray (fixed and 3 portable units) , 2 GE digital ultrasounds, endoscopy (including a 3 meter gastroscope), Powerfloat dental equipment, in house Abaxis lab equipment, serum amyloid A, and twice daily pickups for Antech reference lab. Recently we incorporated ProStride in our practice as we expand our regenerative medicine capabilities. In addition, we have a full surgical suite and an 8-stall hospital facility with outdoor pens and fenced lungeing area. For more extensive procedures including MRI and colic surgeries, we have a large referral hospital less than an hour away. You will also have the support and collaboration of 4 experienced equine veterinarians in our group.

We encourage participation in community activities including client education seminars, vaccination clinics, presentations to pony clubs, bowling league, Kiwanis, Rotary, etc. We also are actively engaged in social media via Facebook Twitter, and our website. Our marketing person and equine vet assistant provides support in this area and is very active herself in the horse community.

Equine Surgeon – Full Time

About our practice

Pacific Crest Equine is looking for a surgeon with an interest in sports medicine to join our team.   We are a progressive practice dedicated to excellence in both veterinary medicine and client care.  We are looking for an individual who can utilize our modern facilities and diagnostic capabilities to serve our growing sport horse population. Our facilities consist of a surgical suite, two exam and treatment rooms, 4-stall indoor intensive care unit, 13 stall barn, individual stallion stalls and collection facilities, as well as lameness evaluation area and round pen.  On-site diagnostic and treatment capabilities include digital radiography, ultrasound, gastroscopy, lameness locator, full in-house laboratory, and regenerative medicine.   We have two fully equipped mobile units to facilitate our ambulatory care.
