About our Externships

MAVANA recognizes the value that clinical practice brings to the veterinary educational experience. The opportunity to connect the dots between lectures, lab, and clinical practice is an event we can all remember. MAVANA clinicians are passionate about the future of our profession and we want to participate in the education of our upcoming colleagues.

Veterinary students will have the opportunity for a variety of externship experiences with the family of MAVANA practices. We provide mixed animal practice opportunities, strictly equine opportunities, and strictly small animal opportunities.

  • Flexible externship length (prefer a minimum of two weeks)

Brandon Equine Medical Center

The goal of our externship is to provide as much “hands on” experience as possible for the veterinary student. We encourage applicants to spend at least two weeks with us if possible, but four weeks is preferable. The longer that the veterinary student is with us, the more they will be able to do. Externs will gain a significant amount of experience by spending time in the hospital seeing outpatients, as well as going out on the road with our ambulatory veterinarians on routine and emergency cases. They also have the opportunity to participate in after hours emergencies, help BEMC interns with management of inpatients, and can participate in weekly journal clubs and intern rounds, which will further augment the learning opportunities available to them.
